Whangaparāoa Hub Community Trust was founded by deed on 27 July 2009 and had operated as an informal group for some years prior. It’s early goal was purely the delivery of a Community Hub (then called a Family Centre) for the Whangaparāoa Peninsula. Future Whangaparāoa Trust was formed by deed after acting as a catalyst group known as Whangaparāoa 2030 to develop an understanding of community needs funded by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board.
Achievements of the Trusts include:
A Community Needs Study
A Hub Feasibility Study
A pop-up hub experiment at 707 Whangaparāoa Rd
The creation of business lobbying and service group Business Whangaparāoa
Active facilitation of community consultation over the Whangaparāoa Library Courtyard upgrade and initial plans for that project which after massive scale backs by Council were ultimately delivered as can be seen today
Delivery of the annual “A Very Coastie Christmas” event at various locations in Stanmore Bay since 2018
After the pop-up hub closed a version of it was delivered in various locations until the owners of Coast, the local shopping centre, offered the opportunity to deliver the facility at a community rental within the walls of the Plaza
In the financial year ended 31/3/25 delivered the capacity for 245 hostings of everything from personal counselling for youth seeking career assistance through to supporting local events, other Trust Board meetings, sign language classes, sewing classes, maths tutoring classes and playgroups hosted by ethnic communities mothers groups.

The preparedness of Auckland for future emergencies is spreading right across the Coast. To explore how meaningful it is to each and everyone of us, take a look at what Te Herenga Waka o Orewa Marae is doing to help us all in the event of a major evacuation style emergency at this open day, get along and see what emergency preparedness city wide! Ka pai!
It’s fast approaching time to vote in the local elections. We’re doing our bit to help you meet local candidates courtesy of a meeting we have arranged for September 14. Whilst no questions will be handled from the floor at the meeting you have a chance to submit a question that may get asked by our moderator on behalf of the audience. You might like to consider sending in a question around water and wastewater. Councils have water as a primary responsibility and in the Auckland Council region that is managed by the Council Controlled Organisation Watercare.
Maybe you live in Gulf Harbour and have questions around the sewage situation there, its repeated overflows and the stench? Maybe you’d like to develop some property on the Peninsula and want to ask what candidates could do about the fact that the Whangaparāoa Peninsula can not get new wastewater connections for new builds until 2031?
Loved these words used to advertise a candidates meeting down on the North Shore. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery straight out theft requires a credit, thank you Auckland North Community and Development – ANCAD
“Local elections shape the future of our community as we know, from how our parks are maintained, to the support our community groups receive, to the services that keep our neighbourhoods thriving. That’s why we opted in to host this meeting. Let’s make sure our local leaders hear what matters to us as we put the questions to them. We would love to see you there. Will you join us?”
